Need a treat to take to a St. Patrick’s Day Party? Bring my Dye-Free Green Muffins! These Flourless muffins are made with Sunbutter and Flax meal. That’s it! (Well, plus a dash baking soda and baking powder:)

Just look at these muffins. Can you believe I didn’t dye them green? And they don’t contain Kale, LOL. Yep. That’s what happens when you bake Sunflower Seed Butter. But don’t worry if they aren’t green when they come out the oven. The lovely green color appears after they have cooled.

Sunflower Seeds contain Chlorophyll, also known as Chlorogenic acid. This reacts with the Baking Soda/Powder and creates the green hue. But that’s a good thing! My entire aim in this recipe was to create a muffin that would be green for St. Patrick’s Day.  And making them allergy-free ensures I can bring them to school. They’re perfect for a class party!

Being part Irish, I just love St. Patrick’s Day. This cute little McGregor Leprechaun has been in my family for years. In case you didn’t know, my maiden name is McGregor;)

How will you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day?

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 15 minutes

Total Time: 20 minutes

6 mini muffins

Dye-Free Green Muffins


  • 1/3 C Sunbutter
  • 1/4 Tsp Baking Soda
  • 1/4 Tsp Baking Powder
  • 1 TBSP Flax Meal
  • 6 TBSP Water


  1. Preheat Oven to 350 Degrees
  2. Blend all ingredients in a bowl
  3. Spoon into 6 mini Muffin Cups
  4. Bake for 15 minutes-18 Minutes (or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean)
